Paris

  Paris, the cosmopolitan capital of France, is the most beautiful city in the world. About 2.2 million people live in this dense central city and almost 12 million people live in the whole metropolitan area. It is one of the largest cities in Europe. Located in the northern part of the country on the river Seine, Paris has the reputation of being the most beautiful and romantic of all cities in the world.

   Paris is also known as the Capitol of Fashion. It is home to the world's finest and most luxurious fashion designers and cosmetics, such as Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint-Laurent, Lancôme, L'Oréal, Clarins, etc. A large part of the city, including the River Seine, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has the second highest number of Michelin-restaurants in the world (after Tokyo) and contains numerous iconic landmarks, such as the world's most visited tourist site the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum etc, making it the most popular tourist destination in the world with 45 million tourists visiting annually.

   Paris is also known for its beautiful parks. Two of Paris' oldest and famous gardens are the Tuileries Garden, created in the 16th century for a palace on the banks of the Seine near the Louvre, and the Left bank Luxembourg Garden, another former private garden belonging to a château built for Marie de' Medici in 1612. The Jardin des Plantes, created by Louis XIII's doctor Guy de La Brosse for the cultivation of medicinal plants, was Paris' first public garden.
